The Story Behind the Canvas
There is a profound, raw energy that takes over the peninsula when a powerful gale begins to churn open water. "Cave Point Gale" is a visual translation of that atmospheric momentum along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. Rather than a direct sunset, this landscape captures the unique, dramatic phenomenon of an anti-twilight alpenglow. As an impending storm rolls in, the eastern sky completely ignites—absorbing and reflecting the brilliant, diffused coral and amber hues of a setting sun happening miles away on the western horizon.

Artisan Details & Texture
This original oil landscape on canvas masterfully balances motion with permanence. The composition features a deliberate combination of fluid, organic brushwork within the brooding storm clouds and structural palette knife applications along the dolomite rock shelves. To capture the chaotic spirit of the storm, a delicate hand-flicked sea spray technique was used exclusively across the breaking crests, creating a beautiful tactile contrast that dynamically catches the ambient light of a room.

A Visual & Musical Score
This artwork was created alongside a custom, original piano solo inspired by the shifting values of the canvas. Composed at the piano sitting directly beside the studio easel, the score mirrors the turbulent weather with driving, continuous arpeggios in the left hand that anchor a dramatic, sweeping melody played in powerful octaves in the right hand. Please turn the sound ON on the main storefront video gallery layout above to experience the full dramatic audio layer while you view the canvas textures.
